Eren Erdal Aksoy

I am currently employed as an Associate Professor at Halmstad University in Sweden. During the last three years, I have also been working as a visiting scholar in AI-teams in different companies such as Volvo Group Trucks Technology and Zenseact AB in Sweden. Before moving to Sweden, I spent 3 years as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in the H2T group of Prof. Dr. Tamim Asfour. I received my Ph.D. at the University of Göttingen, where I further stayed as a postdoctoral researcher for 2.5 years in the Computer Vision and Robotics group of Prof. Dr. Florentin Wörgötter. I have been actively working on creating the semantic representation of visual experiences to achieve a better environment and action understanding for autonomous systems such as robots and unmanned vehicles.

March, 2022: Our Horizon Europe proposal ROADVIEW has been granted by the European Commission. I am honoured to coordinate coordinate the consortium of 15 partners. I will be hiring 2 PhD students for this project. Stay tuned!
October, 2021: I gave an invited talk on “Semantics-aware Multi-modal Domain Translation” at IAM, Arizona Commerce Authority.
August, 2021: My PhD student Tiago Cortinhal received the "Best Student Paper Award" at the IJCAI 2021 AI4AD workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Autonomous Driving. Check out the paper, video, and source code!
June, 2021: Fredrik Svanström, co-supervised by me, has received the best AI Master’s Thesis Award from the Swedish AI Society, SAIS.
October, 2020: I gave an invited talk on “Uncertainty-aware Semantic Segmentation of LiDAR Point Clouds” at IVS DDIVA workshop.
June, 2020: Check out our new SalsaNext model which ranks first on the Semantic-KITTI leaderboard. We also release our source code!
June, 2020: I received a Distinguished Service Award as an Outstanding Associate Editor for the IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters.
November, 2019: My student, Erik Karlsson, was awarded the Wimanska prize by the Swedish Engineers for the best bachelor degree thesis in Sweden. Check out his thesis here!
